CAMPBELL’S BAY – Community spirit was on full display in Campbell’s Bay as residents from across the municipality and neighboring towns gathered for a weekend ball tournament and fundraiser in support of the families of local “Bay Boys” Steve Morin and Charlie Frost.
The weekend event brought together friends, neighbors, and visiting teams for competitive softball, live music, food, and family activities. Beyond the action on the field, the gathering served as a meaningful space for the community to connect, reminisce, and show unified support for the two local families.
Community dedication and special tributes
A central highlight of the weekend was a special presentation by the Pontiac Lions Club, which officially unveiled plaques renaming the local ball field dugouts in honor of Steve Morin and Charlie Frost. The tournament saw tremendous generosity from participating teams and local residents. Tournament winners (the Bombers and Corriveau’s) alongside runners-up (Fully Loaded and Buckaneers) all chose to donate their cash prize money directly back to the cause. In another standout moment, 50/50 winner Will Lepack donated his entire $2,400 winnings back to the fundraiser.
A true team effort
Organizer Tim Ferrigan extended heartfelt gratitude to the extensive network of volunteers, local businesses, and municipal partners who made the weekend possible.
Key organizational leadership was provided by his wife Serena, who managed volunteer recruitment, promotion, and tournament scoring; Stéphanie Hebert Shea, who oversaw the extensive prep and operation of the canteen; and Suzanne Pilon, who managed ticket sales and event finances. The initial idea for the event was brought forward earlier this year by Jason Beaudoin, who also managed all umpiring for the weekend, alongside Kay Zer.
Darryl Crawford kept the ball fields in pristine condition, while Friday setup was completed with the help of Denis-Jr Dagenais, Jesse Mahoney, Tyler Shea, Terry Frost, and Chris Sauriol. The event also relied on heavy demand at the food stands, with volunteer Noah Lariviere delivering 80 pizzas throughout the weekend.
The Municipality of Campbell’s Bay supported the event by donating the use of the RA Hall, while Parent Hive – Ruche Parent managed 50/50 sales and sponsored children’s face painting. Stéphane Durocher and Les Maisons des Jeunes du Pontiac donated and staffed bouncy houses for kids, Louis Boucher provided and set up a large event tent, Trevor Fraser of Pontiac Ice provided freezer equipment, and Michel Denault of Enseignes Pontiac assisted with last-minute signage donations. Local grocer Épicerie Croghan (Samantha Beauparlant and Jarod Croghan) provided extra support to keep up with higher-than-expected weekend demand.
The Pontiac Lions Club also facilitated a Ford truck lease draw provided by the MacKechnie family and Shawville Ford.
Record community impact
Thanks to the overwhelming turnout, volunteer support, and corporate sponsorship, the weekend fundraiser generated a total net profit of $25,784. The proceeds have been distributed in equal shares directly to the Morin and Frost families.
“The event could not have gone any better! The weather was perfect, we had a huge turnout and everybody had a great time,” Ferrigan said. “Our volunteers came through again and the weekend went off without a hitch! We have an amazing community.”
