The roar of chainsaws, the swing of axes, and the cheers of the crowd filled Parc des Chutes Coulonge on September 27 as the annual Lumberjack Festival returned to Mansfield. The event celebrated the region’s proud forestry history with live demonstrations, music, and family fun.

The Great Canadian Lumberjacks, a travelling troupe known for their thrilling displays of strength and skill, wowed audiences with competitive sawing, climbing, and axe-throwing shows throughout the day. Between performances, visitors enjoyed food booths, local crafts, and live music by Whiskey River Fever, featuring Cameron Beaudry and Ben Plazek.

One of the day’s highlights was the traditional log race, when hundreds of logs tumbled down the Chutes Coulonge in a spectacular display that drew cheers from young and old alike. Chainsaw artist Kyle Bertrand of Bertrand’s Big Bear Carving from Campbell’s Bay impressed visitors with his detailed wood sculptures, while “Making Faces” offered colourful face painting for children.

The festival continued its long-standing tradition as both a celebration and a fundraiser for the park’s preservation and tourism efforts, leaving visitors already looking forward to next year’s edition. – William Dale
