FARMS UNITE TO SHOWCASE ANGUS AND SIMMENTAL CATTLE

Simmental and Angus producers and friends gathered August 9 for farm tours, prime rib supper and live entertainment. Both provincial associations chose the same date and area for their annual field days, letting hosts Armohr Farm and Bristol View/Starborn Farms combine tours and stage a community celebration.

Participants parked at Starborn Farms in south Clarendon, then bused to Will Armitage’s Angus operation at Armohr Farm in north Bristol. They returned to Starborn, where Simmental bulls and other cattle from Bristol View Farm and producers across the Pontiac and Ottawa Valley were showcased.

“It was a great day to showcase what we have and come together as a community,” said Jenn Russell-Judd, who, with her son Ben Judd and father Bill Russell, represents three generations of beef farmers at Bristol View Farm.

More than 200 people filled Starborn’s historic barn for the evening. Sponsors set up displays and donated prizes for a draw run by co-organizer Reese Rusenstrom. Guest speaker Dr. Georges Paradis discussed Herdtrax, a herd management software, and musician Levi Hart performed. Proceeds supported the Junior Angus and Simmental Associations. – Deborah Powell
