Sylvain Tremblay
Sylvain Tremblay, who worked for three years as foreman for the municipality of L’Île-du-Grand-Calumet, is running for mayor with the goal of bringing greater transparency and participation to local government. Deeply involved in his community, he said his motivation comes from seeing residents feel unheard. “Every time I attended municipal meetings, people felt they weren’t being listened to,” he said. If elected, he hopes to establish a town hall where citizens can share their ideas and contribute to developing projects that meet local needs.
For Tremblay, the main challenges are upgrading the water treatment plant and improving roads. “I’m certain there are grants available to help improve the situation,” he said. “These are issues the council must work hard on to get up to date.” He intends to pursue every possible subsidy to modernize infrastructure while easing the financial burden on taxpayers.
To support economic development and keep families and businesses in the community, Tremblay wants to create more recreational spaces by rezoning some areas. This would give young people and families more places to play sports and take part in activities. He believes it’s important to promote and preserve strong family values. “I might look into building a pickleball court and/or a skatepark,” he added.
Tremblay believes grants are essential to improving services while maintaining affordable taxes. “The more funding we can obtain for improvements, the less citizens will have to pay,” he said.
Incumbent Jean Louis Corriveau declined the Journal’s request for an interview.
