Jennifer Quaile

Jennifer Quaile is seeking re-election as mayor of Otter Lake. She has served on council since 2021, first as councillor and then as mayor for the past ten months.

“I want to continue working hard as mayor for the people of Otter Lake,” said Quaile. She cites leadership, responsiveness to residents’ concerns, and fiscal oversight as key strengths she brings to the role.

Among the current challenges she identifies is the need to assess the condition of the town’s water infrastructure through professional evaluation. She also points to the spread of Eurasian milfoil in local lakes, which she aims to address through hand removal or approved tarping methods, while keeping the lakes open and accessible.

Maintaining a low mill rate is another priority. “In the face of rising costs, we’re committed to keeping our mill rate as low as possible through careful budget management,” she said. Quaile also notes ongoing challenges at the MRC Pontiac level, including potential fire service mergers and land use planning aligned with provincial requirements.

She supports local economic growth through entrepreneurship and hopes to diversify Otter Lake’s economy beyond tourism and construction. Quaile also advocates for more affordable housing and improved access to daycare, education, and health care to attract and retain families.

Quaile highlights recent waste management progress, noting that since summer 2024, the municipality has reduced landfill waste by diverting recyclables and food waste. She remains committed to road maintenance and supporting firefighters and first responders.

Sonia St-Laurent

Sonia St-Laurent has announced her candidacy for mayor of Otter Lake in the upcoming municipal election. A resident of the municipality since 2022, St-Laurent brings with her a background in public service, having spent her career in public relations and citizen services.

She says her decision to run stems from a desire to rebuild trust and transparency between the municipal government and residents. St-Laurent notes that many taxpayers feel disconnected from local decision-making and want clearer communication from council. If elected, she says she will focus on impartial, common-sense governance that reflects the interests of all residents.

Her priorities include supporting the local fire department, improving the drinking water system, and protecting Otter Lake’s natural environment. St-Laurent highlights the importance of safeguarding the municipality’s lakes, which she says are vital to tourism and local quality of life. She also emphasizes the need to retain the elementary school and provide continued support for small businesses that sustain the local economy.

St-Laurent presents herself as an independent candidate with no business or family ties in the area, which she believes allows her to remain neutral and fair in council matters. She says she is committed to serving both permanent and seasonal residents equally and ensuring everyone feels represented in local government.

Sonia St-Laurent will appear on the ballot for mayor of Otter Lake on Sunday, November 2, 2025.
