ROTARY CLUB’S FIRST 50/50 DRAW RAISES NEARLY $5,000
Rotary Club 50/50 winner Pat Lydiard received her cheque at Café 349 on Wednesday, September 3. A longtime cottager from Norway Bay, Lydiard was thrilled with the $4,752.50 prize. She had been planning to replace her roof and said the winnings will allow her to move ahead with a contractor.
Lydiard, a member of the Norway Bay Municipal Association, has long admired the work of community service organizations such as the Rotary Club.
This was the club’s first 50/50 draw, launched to generate general funds after the club lost the gig of manning the gates at the Shawville Fair due to the hiring of a contractor. Promotion at the fair and elsewhere paid off, with 1,901 tickets sold. Rotary Club president Marc Latreille said members were pleasantly surprised with the response. – Cathy Fox
