SHAWVILLE – About 50 people took to the streets of Shawville on Sunday for the community’s annual Terry Fox Run, raising $8,885 for cancer research and
surpassing last year’s total by more than $1,100.
The September 20 event marked a change for the local run, which moved
from Pontiac High School to Dr. S.E. McDowell Elementary School on Centre Street and introduced a new route. Carolann Barton, who organizes the event with Jennifer Mielke, said participants responded positively to the change.
The fundraising total was also up substantially. The run raised $7,700 in 2025, meaning this year’s result represented an increase of $1,185, or about 15 per cent.
Local businesses and community organizations contributed to the effort. Barton singled out Stephane Landry of Boutique Chaussures Shawville Shoes, who raised $585 through a partnership with Brooks Running, which contributed $20 for each qualifying pair of running shoes sold.
The Shawville Lions Club donated another $1,500 and prepared a barbecue for participants and supporters.
Bob Dale and Brent Plouffe provided music during the event, adding to a gathering that relied heavily on local volunteers and community support.
Barton thanked the donors, volunteers and participants who return each year to support the run and its goal of raising money for cancer research in Terry Fox’s name.
