SPRING DOOR MAT CREATIONS AT CAFÉ 349 – Café 349 in Shawville was the place to be March 27, as a full house of 32 women of all ages gathered to create their own painted door mats. The event was led by Shawville resident Sarah Zimmerling of Handmades by Sarah, on behalf of the Ottawa-based company Rough Draft Events. Seated in groups of six, participants used plain coir mats and paints to design custom door mats in celebration of spring. The evening offered opportunities for collaboration and encouragement, along with tea, coffee and desserts. Zimmerling said it was the third event her company has hosted in the Pontiac, and strong turnout has encouraged plans for more in the future. – Clifford Welsh
