’50s–’60s DANCE RAISES FUNDS FOR HARRINGTON COMMUNITY CENTRE

The Chapeau and District Lions Club held a fundraising dance on Saturday, May 24
at the Harrington Community Centre in support of the facility.

The Reg Carkner Band kept the crowd of about 130 people dancing throughout the evening with a setlist of popular ’60s-era tunes, including Sweet Caroline, Old Time Rock and Roll, Brown Eyed Girl, Wagon Wheel, Lucille, and even Boot Scootin’ Boogie for the line dancers. Many in the audience sang along, clearly enjoying the music.

Tickets were sold for a 50/50 draw, and all attendees had a chance to win a door prize
of spirits. The crowd was so enthusiastic that the band played two additional songs
after their final set.

A light lunch was served at the end of the evening. Proceeds, which were not available
at press time, will go toward continued upgrades to the Harrington Community Centre.
