The Seniors’ Christmas Cheer Dinner was held Wednesday, December 6, at the Anglican Church Hall in Shawville. For decades, the Shawville Lionettes organized and prepared this turkey dinner to spread seasonal cheer for seniors, especially those with no immediate family. After a four-year break due to COVID restrictions, and with the guidance of some retired Lionettes, the Shawville Lions took over the task of organizing the dinner, with a guest list generated to include people who are either alone, widowed or a widower. Elwin Lang’s Shawville Taxi provided rides for those who needed them.
Café 349 prepared the meal, and the Lions, with help from other volunteers, served approximately 140 attendees. The seniors enjoyed Christmas carols sung by New Life Singers from the Grace Community Bible Church, who have been providing the music for years to this event. Santa even made an appearance with gifts for all.
Lions President, Ed Walsh, thanked Café 349, Giant Tiger, Shawville Taxi, Grace Community Bible Church, and the Anglican Church, stating: “Your generous contributions helped make this dinner possible.”
