Denim, diamonds and dancing at the Ag Hall

Ladies of the Pontiac gathered at the Shawville Fairgrounds exhibition hall on Friday evening, September 20. The event was organized by Tanya Greer and Lisa Coles who said: “they wanted to get the community together, get the ladies excited, and give them some fun after the fair”. Billed as “Denim and Diamonds”, those in attendance filled the hall sporting denim clothing and lots of bling.

Before the music started, there was time to look over the wares of some thirty vendors selling clothing, jewelry, homemade preserves, cosmetics, and more. A Silent auction with items donated by local businesses and individuals accepted bids.  The evening included a buffet lunch with men serving the tables and selling tickets for a 50/50 draw.

First up on stage, local musicians McKenna Dubeau and Jake Pare warmed up the crowd. After a break, the eastern Ontario band, Ambush, took the stage playing rocking music that brought the crowd onto the dance floor for the rest of the evening.

The organizers report the event a resounding success with 210 tickets sold and more than $2,000 raised for CHEO and the Make-a-Wish foundations. Greer stated that they received lots of positive feedback from the audience with some leaving thank-you notes behind saying what a blast the event had been. Greer and Coles hope the event will be one of more to come. – Dale Shutt
