Fort-Coulonge -The local arena got a lively boost this past week as over 90 women filled the dance floor for Disco Divas 2026, an evening dedicated to fun, community connection, and local fundraising.

Organized as an opportunity for women to gather and socialize—particularly while many partners are away for the fall hunting season—the themed event delivered high energy, dazzling outfits, and strong community support.

Building on the success of last year’s inaugural event, which featured a country theme, organizers switched gears this year to bring a 1970s disco vibe to the crowd. Live music by Backtrak kept the dance floor packed throughout the evening, ensuring the event exceeded the attendance of its inaugural run.

While the primary goal of the evening was to boost the arena’s general bank account ahead of the upcoming winter operations, unexpected mechanical issues made the community’s support even more crucial.

According to lead organizer Christine Bourque, an unforeseen issue with the arena’s dehumidifier system required purchasing a replacement part shortly before the event. Thanks to the strong turnout and ticket sales, the proceeds from Disco Divas will directly cover the cost of the repair, keeping the arena facility up and running for the season.

Although final fundraising tallies were still being calculated prior to press time—as organizers finalize supply returns and bond tallies—the event successfully generated significant proceeds to address the unexpected mechanical expenses and support the arena’s ongoing operating budget.

Looking ahead, Bourque confirmed that the women’s night out is set to remain an annual tradition, with different themes envisioned for future years.

In addition to event fundraisers, the arena executive continues to run online raffle draws to support facility operating costs. The next upcoming raffle will feature an item donated by the Metro grocery store, allowing 100 percent of ticket proceeds to go directly toward the arena’s bottom line.

Community members interested in future raffles and upcoming arena events are encouraged to keep an eye on local announcements as the fall and winter seasons get underway.
