The Shawville arena was filled on March 30 to April 1, 2023 , for the Flying Elbows Hockey Tournament. The event featured some local teams, including the Benders, Flying Elbows, Greystone Farms, Fully Loaded, Farmers Mob, among others.
The B Division championship was won by the Benders, while the Danford Lakers (photo) emerged victorious as the A Division Champion, a team with local hockey heritage that put on a great performance alongside other competitors.
There was also online coverage of the event provided by Scott Mahoney, who was updating fans throughout the tournament, allowing those who couldn’t attend to still be a part of the action.
The tournament’s main organizer, Will Armitage, was also a participant; he took to the ice to defend last year’s title, but was unable to secure another victory.
The Flying Elbows Hockey Tournament has become a highly anticipated event in the area, drawing in fans from all over. The event is a celebration of the community’s love for hockey and the local hockey talent. Congratulations to the Benders and Danford Lakers on their victories and to all the teams, organizers and volunteers that participated in this year’s tournament. (WD)
