Ontario’s so-called “Captain Canada,” Doug Ford, attempted to ride anti-American sentiment to an overwhelming majority government. However, he lost three seats from his previous total. This outcome shows that Canadians have much to consider when electing their government.
There are many pressing issues to address, from improving health care and maintaining the Dental Care Plan to making life more affordable and protecting the rivers and lands in our riding. The next federal election must reflect the ideas of all relevant parties—not just those of the Liberals, who, as recent polls suggest, are being shown the door, or the Conservatives, who act as if they are entitled to the Prime Minister’s office while offering slogans that hint at solutions but lack meaningful substance.
As an important third voice in Canadian politics, the NDP has proposed protecting
the livelihood of workers during these tariff-threatened times. This surely merits serious voter consideration and deserves support.
