In an article published in the October 5, 2022 edition of the Pontaic Journal, entitled “Residents provide mixed feedback on Regional Wetland and Water Plan,” there was an error concerning the effects of the Regional Wetland and Water Plan. The article stated that the plan would “impose restrictions on landowners as to how they could develop their property.” According to an MRC spokesperson, this is not the case, although some people who participated in the public consultation interpreted it this way. The Regional Wetland and Water Plan will serve as a set of guidelines for municipalities when they are doing their land use planning. For example, if a municipality has a goal to protect wetlands, the plan will guide them on how to achieve it. The MRC’s proposed plan is not a law and does not directly impose any restrictions on residents or landowners.
