BRISTOL – The Norway Bay pier has reopened after being closed for more than a year. Electrical work, walkway repairs, landscaping, and new safety ladders have all been completed.
At the last Bristol Council meeting on June 2, concerns were raised about using the
grant money allocated for pier renewal through the Regions and Rurality Fund (FRR1).
The deadline to use the funds was approaching, but an extension has since been granted until August 2026.
The pier committee—composed of councillors, the building inspector, and community volunteers—is awaiting further information from engineering firm WSP Global Inc. regarding the options presented in its report. Once that information is received, the committee will decide on a repair plan. According to WSP, the pier has an estimated life expectancy of just four more years before it becomes unsafe.
