Pembroke celebrates Canada Day

PEMBROKE – The City of Pembroke celebrated Canada’s 157th birthday with two days of festivities at Riverside Park and the Pembroke Marina, Sunday, June 30, and Monday, July 1. Sunday’s highlight was the lumberjack competition, sponsored by Roseburg Forest Products of Pembroke. Competitors squared off in teams of two to see who could cut a slab off a log the fastest, first using an Echo chainsaw, and then an old-fashioned crosscut saw. Next up was the axe throwing competition – a demonstration of skill and accuracy. Monday featured a great lineup of live entertainment, a magic show, boat tours by GSX, many children’s games, and food. The evening concluded with a fantastic fireworks display.
