Pontiac Council Report
Road work and tobogganing safety
Jean Côté
MUNICIPALITY OF PONTIAC – Eight ratepayers attended council’s regular monthly meeting, October 8, in Luskville.
Q & A period
Representatives of the Groupe Action Jeunesse are concerned about the safety of tobogganing on the hill at the Luskville ballpark and asked if council can work towards making it safer. Council responded that although the hill isn’t meant for tobogganing, they will take action to ensure safety.
A question was asked about the status of the repairs on Hwy 148. The Ministry of Transport has said repairs that began this year will be finished soon on the south side, but repairs to the north side of the highway will not begin until spring 2025.
A repeat request by a private citizen for council’s assistance in securing a housing subsidy was discussed anew. Though some creative financial options were proposed by the resident, council stated it will continue to look into the matter, but laws and regulations need to be followed.
Lastly, council said the Part 2 resurfacing project for Murray / Clarendon should be done by the end of October.
Administration
A resolution was passed to accord another bank of hours to the MC Perreault legal firm, as budgeted hours have been exhausted.
The bylaw addressing remuneration for elected officials was tabled and public consultation on the matter will follow.
A request for an exemption from federal and provincial laws from the Ministry of the Environment will be made to expedite the replacement of a culvert on Chemin Thérien as numerous residents have been greatly impacted.
Public works
Nugent Construction was allocated the snow removal contract for the Luskville sector for the next three winters.
A portion of Kawartha Road was resurfaced by municipal workers recently, in particular the south-east section from Mackay (heading towards Aylmer). This is the second project the municipality has handled on its own rather than contracting out at higher costs.
Urban planning
Subdivision requests for 401 Route 366 Ouest and 917 Chemin Murray were approved, as well as support for a CPTAQ request for 25 Chemin Elm.
Recreation and culture
Council resolved to support the yearly Mo’s Fly-in, October 25 and 26 at the Pontiac Aerodrome in Luskville, and authorized the coordinator of recreation / community life and communications to proceed with plans for the 2025 Pontiac Country Festival.
Tabling of documents
The 2025 property assessment roll was deposited.
The official minutes are available on the Municipality of Pontiac’s website.
