Pontiac council report
Jean Côté
MUNICIPALITY OF PONTIAC – Only four ratepayers attended the municipality’s monthly council meeting, August 13 in Luskville.
Though final figures aren’t available yet, this year’s Pontiac Country Festival will likely still run a deficit, though it was a vast improvement over last year’s festival.
Administration
A sale of properties for non-payment of taxes scheduled for December 2024 was approved by the MRC des Collines-de-l’Outaouais, which has also mandated representatives to bid on the properties; more details to follow.
There was also discussion about approving a payment of $57,823 to the consulting firm SIRCO concerning the urban planning department.
Council adopted the Pontiac Housing Project (OHP) budget as presented.
Draft bylaw 16-24 was tabled to replace bylaw 09-24 concerning light maintenance service on private roads open to the public by tolerance.
Resignations were tendered by two volunteer firefighters.
Public works
A day labourer was hired and a purchase contract was awarded to Magasin du Fermier for 17 culverts and 10 collars, the lowest of three bids, for $12,549.44.
Recreation and culture
The municipality received a request from Sports Cyclistes Outaouais to use the same circuit within Pontiac as last year’s cycle run, which was held August 18.
Approval was given to start preparing for next year’s Pontiac Country Festival 2025, as well as the upcoming (Oct 12, 2024) Pontiac Country Fair.
Usage fees for the Shawville arena for programs such as hockey and figure skating have risen from $144 to $250 per user. It’s estimated that about 100 Pontiac residents participate in the programs, so a resolution was passed to budget $25K to cover the fees.
Council also approved a $250 sponsorship to be sent to the Shawville Agricultural Society to support the upcoming Shawville Fair 2024.
Tabling of documents
A letter from the Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing (MAMH) concerning missing documents was read; Mayor Roger Larose outlined delays encountered by the Municipality of Pontiac in submitting the 2022 financial report. The matter will be addressed shortly.
