LADYSMITH – Spring is in the air, and gardeners are eager to begin a new growing season. Every gardener wonders which seeds to plant, where to get them, and when to start. That’s where Seedy Saturdays can help.

Seedy Saturday is a fun, free event where participants can share and exchange seeds, discover exciting new varieties from other seed savers, attend workshops and talks with experts, meet local food and artisan vendors, and purchase seeds from regional seed companies.

Seedy Saturdays take place across the country in collaboration with Seeds of Diversity Canada. They encourage the sharing of open-pollinated and heritage seeds, along with environmentally responsible gardening practices.

On March 29, the second annual Pontiac Seedy Saturday will take place in Ladysmith at the Thorne Community Recreation Centre.

“We are excited to showcase local vendors, expert advisers, and interesting speakers at our second annual event,” said Valerie Bridgeman, one of the volunteer organizers. “Our canteen will be open all day serving produce from local suppliers. Whether you’re a first-time or master gardener, seed enthusiast, or expert seed saver, there’s something for everyone.”
