Shawville-Clarendon Library celebrates 20 years

SHAWVILLE – The Shawville-Clarendon Library recently celebrated 20 years on Main Street. Originally opened in 1968, the library resided in various locations in town before finally moving to its current building at 356 Main Street in 2004.

Members can borrow various materials from the library, which boasts a wide selection of adult fiction, nonfiction, youth, and children’s books. However, besides lending books and DVDs, the library also serves as an essential community hub by providing high-speed internet, hosting events, and offering unique programs. One such program is the Art Hive; a collection of donated arts and crafts supplies that members of all ages are encouraged to use. There are supplies available for knitting, macrame, painting, and jewellery-making.

The library also supports local writers by hosting a variety of regional authors’ works in their collection. Five local authors and an illustrator were in attendance at the library’s anniversary event, July 13: Esther Colpitts (non-fiction short story writer), Robert Brown (semi-autobiographical novelist), Luke Murphy (murder mystery novelist), Tina Michaud (illustrator), and Muriel Davies (children’s author). All the local authors books are available to borrow at the library.

The library encourages residents of Shawville-Clarendon to become members (for free) by visiting its website or Shawville location in person. On July 20, the library will host a free bus tour of the history of Clarendon. Contact the library or visit its website and Facebook pages to learn more about this tour and other future events and programming.
