Shawville Fair

It is the end of summer, the beginning of a new season.  The harvest has begun; children are returning to school.  The community takes time to enjoy this new season by participating in the Shawville Fair – a place and occasion where tradition meets today and greets tomorrow. This is especially true this year as Shawville celebrates its sesquicentennial; one hundred and fifty years as a separate municipality. And the best place to celebrate is the Shawville Fair!

The Fair highlights the agricultural aspects of MRC Pontiac.  It is sponsored by the Pontiac Agricultural Society (PAS) – a group of enthusiastic and knowledgeable volunteers.  But the Fair is more than agriculture.  Musical acts and live entertainment, midway rides, handicrafts, livestock competitions, food concessions, demolition derby, truck and tractor pull, petting zoo and most importantly – friends and fun; the Fair has it all.  The daily admission is all inclusive for on-ground admission, midway rides, and all shows and entertainment. That is, patrons enjoy the midway rides, the live entertainment, and the agricultural events without having to purchase additional fares.

Attending the Fair becomes a memorable experience.  Excitement, exhilaration, and joy are components of the Fair experience. But, so too, are knowledge, social exchange, and renewed inspiration for the future of MRC Pontiac and the wider world. The opportunity to exchange ideas broadens the social network. The displays and exhibitions by vendors inform the community of new and available products. Dairy, beef, poultry, and horticultural produce bring into prominence the agricultural potential of the region. They all remind us of a noteworthy past and a bright and assured future.

Yes, the Shawville Fair is something special. It is a family and community event unlike any other. Large cities have events and occasions that bring some people together, but the Shawville Fair is a community event for all.  The agricultural house that is the Shawville Fair provides a dwelling place for the entire community. The Fair is the largest gathering of people in MRC Pontiac and the best place to show the diversity and unity of the community as rural and urban meet in the most encouraging atmosphere.

The Fair will go from Thursday, August 31 to Monday, September 4.  The Pontiac Museum, on the fairgrounds, will be open during the Shawville Fair and a visit will enrich the Fair experience. This once-a-year event is not to be missed.  So, see you at the Fair!
