SMALL STEPS TOWARDS THE MARKET PLANT SALE
The Small Steps Towards the Market (Petits Pas Vers Le Marche) Program, sponsored by the Chapeau Agricultural Society, held their first vegetable and flower plant sale of the season, Saturday, May 18, at the new Chapeau Farmers Market building. Many people took advantage of the sale to stock their gardens while supporting the children’s agricultural program. The sale raised $750 which will go back into the program.
The program, held on the Ag. Society property at Harrington Community Centre, teaches children about agriculture and where their food comes from. The program has been in operation for over five years and consists of kindergarten and elementary students from Dr. Wilbert Keon School (DWKS) and École Notre-Dame-du-Sacré-Coeur (NDSC) under the guidance of teachers Caroline Legare (DWKS) and Sabrina Lafontaine (NDSC). Any remaining plants will be either sold when the market opens on June 6 or planted by the students in the community garden located at the back of the Ag. Society property.
