SHAWVILLE – Pontiac High School (PHS) is inviting the community to submit nominations for its Athletic Hall of Fame. The Hall of Fame was initiated in 2020, and after this year’s induction, the event will occur every ten years, with the next set for 2030.
Darcy Findlay, the school representative, explained that the nomination window is open until 8 p.m. on December 31st. Nominations can be made for several categories including Athlete, Master Athlete, Team, Coach, Official, Builder, Pioneer, and Special Achievement. All these categories aim to recognize former students, teachers, teams, and other significant contributors for their outstanding achievements and contributions to sports at PHS. The detailed criteria for each category are available on the Hall of Fame’s official website, phsathletichalloffame.com.
Notably, those who were nominated in 2020 but didn’t make the induction will automatically be considered for this year’s class.
—-Fundraising for new bleachers
PHS is also currently fundraising for new retractable bleachers for their gym. Their initial goal was to raise $64,000, and have already secured $53,000, mostly from community donations. The school hopes to complete the fundraising by this year’s Christmas break. Donors can contribute via cash or check, dropped off at the school, and each donation is acknowledged on the school’s Facebook page.
Findlay expressed immense gratitude for the community’s overwhelming support, noting donations ranging from $50 to a substantial $5,000. The school’s campaign cleverly equated each seat on the bleacher to a $200 donation, encouraging community members to “purchase a seat.” He concluded, “It’s a great project, and it’s nice that it has gone as quickly as is has.”
