A RECYCLING BOOST AT BRISTOL MARKET

Bristol Market volunteer Patty Loveridge has been providing marketgoers with an opportunity to do some advanced recycling through TerraCycle, a company offering a range of programs for recycling items not widely accepted elsewhere. Separate bins were set up to collect used Brita filters, pens, coffee bags, razors, wine corks and Crest or Oral B products.

“I was doing it at home for myself,” said Loveridge, “and was pleased that the market agreed to let me set up here for the last few market days [of the season].” The recycling booth also offered information from the municipality about what is accepted in their recycling program. For Loveridge, the TerraCycle program is at least part of the answer to the question of what can be removed from the waste stream in Bristol. She is considering running the advanced station again next year, likely once a month throughout the season, with plenty of advance notice on the Bristol Market Facebook page. – Deborah Powell
