Municipality of Pontiac report
Uncertainty over councillor’s residency
Jean Côté
MUNICIPALITY OF PONTIAC – Eleven residents attended the municipality’s regular council meeting, November 12 at the Luskville Town Hall.
Q & A period
Clarification on what’s needed from the property owner will be required for a request to subdivide 75 Terry Fox Road, so it was removed from the agenda.
Questions were raised about the residency of Ward 1 Councillor Diane Lacasse who recently sold her home in the Pontiac and may have moved elsewhere, which would disqualify her from sitting on council. The first temporary address given to Council didn’t work out, but Mayor Roger Larose stated council is satisfied that a secondary address was provided, for the time being. However, ratepayers urged the municipality to require further proof.
The study on changing police coverage from the MRC Des Collines Police the Sûreté du Quebec was discussed, with one ratepayer, who sat on the prior study, volunteering to assist with the new one.
Administration
A resolution was passed to secure another bank of hours from the MC Perreault legal firm, as budgeted hours were exhausted.
The bylaw addressing remuneration for elected officials was passed.
A resolution was passed to seek an exemption from the Ministry of Environment to expedite the replacement of a culvert on Chemin Thérien as numerous residents have been greatly impacted.
The new meeting calendar for 2025 was released and will be posted on the municipal website.
Public works
The second phase of the Murray/Clarendon road resurfacing is finished, with the municipality handling the work themselves.
Urban planning
Two new subdivisions on Tremblay Road and Camac / Les Jardins de la Rivière were approved, allowing the creation of some 23 additional building lots.
Recreation and culture
A resolution was passed to appoint Caryl McCann as municipal liaison with the Quyon Community Association for the upcoming Quyon 150th celebration in 2025; she will work with the community life coordinator.
The official minutes will be available on the municipal website.
