GRAND OPENING OF “THE HUB”

The newly renovated St. Paul’s Anglican Church Hall in Shawville was rechristened “The Hub” at a grand opening ceremony, November 23.  St. Paul Clergy, local politicians, parishioners, members of the public and various community groups celebrated the official launch of the building dedicated to community outreach in many areas of need.

Reverend Susan Lewis explained how 6 years ago the church community discerned the need for the church to utilize their facility to act as a “Hub” to bring together and support Pontiac residents. Partnerships slowly developed with Connexions Resource Centre, the Alzheimers Society and Bouffe Pontiac. Examples of community events held in the hall in recent months include cooking and bread making workshops, exercise classes, meditations, drumming circles and mental health initiatives.

Renovations were funded by stream four of the Regions and Rurality Fund (FFR 4). They include a new floor, revamped electrical, updated kitchen appliances and an automatic double door system. Plans are underway to install a cabin at the side of the hall to house a community refrigerator.

After a ribbon cutting and speeches, attendees enjoyed refreshments in the hall.
