The Shawville RA held its golf tournament, BBQ, and fastball exhibition on Saturday, May 3. Despite a chilly start, the weather turned sunny as 29 teams of four competed at the Renfrew Golf Club in men’s, women’s, and mixed divisions. Prizes were awarded for best score, longest drive, longest putt, and closest to the pin.
The men’s top team featured Stéphane Paré, Connor Romain, Chris Francoeur, and Nick Durocher. In the mixed division, Neil Chabot, Alex Watson, James Metcalf, and Andrea Bishop took first. Bishop also won in the women’s division alongside Hailey Murray and Rory Richardson.
Paré had the men’s longest drive, Johnny Routliffe the longest putt, and Hunter Essiambre came closest to the pin. On the women’s side, Tina Hiller had the longest drive, Kathy Murray the longest putt, and Kristina Zacharias was closest to the pin.
Local businesses supported the event with prize donations, including the Shawville Curling Club, Willow Hollow Farm, and Mountain View Turf Farm. A BBQ fundraiser followed back at the RA grounds, with volunteers serving food to support the RA. The day wrapped up with fastball games featuring local players, a Fitzroy Harbour team, and a team from Quebec’s under-23 provincial division. – Clifford Welsh
