SHAWVILLE – The biennial Touch-a-Truck event was held at the Shawville Fairgrounds on July 13. Hosted by The Parent’s Voice Shawville, an organization seeking to create a community for parents and children in the Pontiac region, the event allowed children to safely explore large vehicles. The weather was hot and sunny as excited kids climbed into the cabs and honked the horns of about 50 trucks. Thirty local businesses participated in the event by showcasing vehicles such as cranes, cement trucks, school buses, fire trucks, and tractors. Animators, including princesses and a clown, added delight to the event while the local 4-H Club served ice cream and the Lions Club hosted a BBQ.
Touch-a-Truck happens every two years in Shawville; the next event won’t be held until the summer of 2026. However, Parent’s Voice regularly offers events like parenting workshops, playgroups, and arts programming. The organization encourages Pontiac parents to get involved for peer support and enriching activities for their children. Find out more on the Parent’s Voice Facebook and Instagram pages.
