VICTORIA AVENUE HIGH SCHOOL REUNION REKINDLES OLD BONDS
Published in the Pontiac Journal on May 21, 2025.
Excitement filled the air as former students and teachers of Victoria Avenue High School in Shawville gathered at the Agricultural Hall at the fairgrounds for a long-awaited all-classes reunion, held May 17.
For many, it had been decades—up to 50 years—since they’d last seen one another. But the moment they stepped inside, memories flowed as freely as the laughter. Hugs, stories, and school-day mischief filled the hall as classmates reconnected and remembered the school that shaped their youth.
Victoria Avenue High School operated from 1969 to 1982. The reunion welcomed alumni from every year, thanks to a dedicated organizing committee: Sean Hill, Cécile Dumont, Lise Lacourse, Bonnie Stone Hill, and emcee David Godmire, who kept the program lively with tributes and humour.
The afternoon featured Chicoutimi boards, a light lunch, and memorabilia displays. Group photos captured each graduating class. A roast beef and chicken supper was followed by dancing to ’70s and ’80s hits with DJ Scully.
Each guest received a VHS coffee mug engraved with the school’s silhouette. A total of 178 people attended. – Cheryl Dolan
