YOUTH COUNCIL SCRUBS UP SUPPORT FOR ANTI-VAPING CAMPAIGN

Published in the Pontiac Journal on June 4, 2025.

The MRC Pontiac Youth Council held a car wash and BBQ fundraiser on May 24 outside
the MRC offices in Litchfield. Youth Council president Aidan McCann and fellow volunteers, including his mother Cyndi Phillips, washed vehicles and served hotdogs and drinks to raise funds for a new awareness campaign on teen vaping.

By 1:30 pm, 11 vehicles had been washed, including a large truck from Campbell’s
Bay Cement, which made a generous donation. More than $500 was raised through contributions from residents, local businesses, government offices, and the office of
MNA André Fortin.

The campaign was inspired by a recent presentation from CISSSO’s Serena Larivière on
the health risks of vaping. McCann noted that around 50% of students at Pontiac’s three high schools are vaping to varying degrees. The Youth Council aims to inform peers of the dangers through literature and guest speakers at Dr. Wilbert Keon School, École secondaire Sieur-de-Coulonge, and Pontiac High School.
