SHAWVILLE – The Pontiac Agricultural Society held its Annual General Meeting Thursday, January 26 at the Fair’s offices in Shawville. On the agenda was the election of a president, reviewing the budget, and starting planning for the 2023 Fair. The 29 directors and volunteers involved attended the meeting in the biggest AGM turnout yet.
Vaughan Bastien was elected for his third consecutive term as President and he noted the Board of Directors and volunteers were enthusiastic about this year’s Fair. The last few years have been difficult as extra costs were incurred with anti-Covid provisions.
He also stated: “In order to assist children that have noise sensitivities, we are going to try to extend our Sensory Hour from one hour to two hours, at the beginning of the first day of the Fair. It is surprising how many children prefer the quiet time at the Fair, when music and noise is reduced.” About thirty children took advantage of the Sensory Hour last year.
Bastien also remarked that the western horse show will return.
The Fair committee are busy booking performers for this year’s lineup and announcements will be made as soon as possible. Bastien urged people to buy their tickets ahead of time and stated: “We are a family friendly event and want everyone to visit and enjoy their experience at the Fair.”
