A vendors’ market set up in the Lions Club Hall, at the Shawville arena, gave spectators a chance to watch the hockey tournament and browse for unique locally made products, the weekend of January 20 to 22; 14 local vendors participated.
“This is the first time we’ve done this, but we’re getting great feedback from people; it’s definitely something I’d like to do again,” said organizer Trish White-Milford, adding, “There are a lot of people stopping by. We’re busy in spurts.” One visitor remarked: “I like being able to get a baked treat while I’m watching hockey, then browsing for household goods or handmade crafts when there is a pause in the games.”
The market ran for three days and all proceeds from the vendor’s fee were donated back to the tournament organizers.
Trish joked about her motivation for organizing the event: “I’m a dedicated hockey mom, so I would be here for the entire tournament anyway.” (NB)
