LITERACY GAMES, PRIZES AND FOOD AT THE LOCAL BREWERY
Published January 29, 2025.
The promise of games, prizes, chili, and relief from the midwinter blues drew residents from nearby communities to Brauwerk Hoffman in Campbellās Bay on Saturday afternoon, January 25.
Upon arrival, guests were seated at tables and offered a choice of non-alcoholic beverages along with either vegetarian or meat-based chili and fresh buns. A variety of games that promoted reading skills were available, including Scrabble, Boggle, chess, checkers, Chinese checkers, and even wilder ones like Exploding Kittens, a lighthearted card game where players strategize to avoid drawing an explosive kitten card while using action cards to outwit opponents.
As more people joined in, everyone participated in some form of interaction, highlighted by the grand Boggle play-off. After three four-minute rounds, scores were tallied, and a self-proclaimed Boggle aficionado claimed victory, winning a $25 gift certificate and a Bananagrams game.
Door prizes included a clip-on rechargeable book lamp and a choice of a novel. Nikki Buehler, Western Quebec Literacy Council (WQLC) president, explained that the event was sponsored to provide a family-friendly opportunity to develop literacy skills. ā Cathy Fox
